For the entire month of September, our Upper and Lower Elementary students have been hard at work learning all about rhythms. Though rhythm permeates all music, and even our youngest students at The Glen use rhythm everyday in music class, our elementary students truly dive deep into understanding these rhythms. We have learned to read, write, count, perform, sing, interpret, and create rhythms.
Our Upper Elementary group spend the second half of the month composing a short song for a rhythm band. Every last detail, from the notes on the page, the time signature, the instrumentation, the rehearsals, the instrument assignments, the direction of the group and the final performances were all up to the students. I am extremely proud of some of the complex rhythms this project has produced, and the evident understanding this group has for reading, writing, and using rhythm in music.
Thank you for stopping by! See you all next week for more!
