Tuesday afternoon we began our study of ROOTS! A root is a part of a plant that is usually hidden underground. Roots have several purposes. They hold the plant in the ground and keep it upright. They take water and food from the soil. On Thursday afternoon, we spent some time outside in the sunshine pulling up several herbs (oregano, parsley, and rosemary) from The Glen’s Garden. These plants are joining our classroom for the winter and then will return to the garden again in spring. A wonderful part of ‘wintering’ these plants is we were able to take a close look at their root systems before replanting them in pots! Then, after exploring the parts of these roots, our class had a taste of several different types of roots! YUM! Take a look!
