Things to do Over Winter Break!
Things to do Over Winter Break!
It seems like the school year just began yesterday, and here we are at Winter Break! Hopefully, the coming weeks will be a relaxing time of togetherness for families.
Sometimes, especially when the weather is uncooperative, families look for suggestions for activities to keep kids busy and entertain out-of-town guests. Here are some links and resources that we find helpful:
Kidsburgh.org has event pages that share what is happening in Pittsburgh and pages for fun craft and STEM activities.
The Carnegie Science Center, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the Andy Warhol Museum offer great indoor activities for multi-generational outings.
Local Libraries have some intriguing activities over winter break. And it’s free! Try visiting a library you haven’t been to before – the Main Carnegie Library in Oakland is fun – and you can add on a visit to Phipps Conservatory!
Alltrails.com is a helpful website and app for finding trails and hikes in your area when the weather is nice. We use this app for The Glen Run/ Walk/ Hike Club in the summer. It previews the hike, including its length, difficulty, and real-time navigation.
The Pittsburgh Zoo is always fun. It also has a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces. Wild Illuminations: A Holiday Lanterns Experience is on display through January 12.
The North Park Laser Show runs from now until the 23rd and is a local favorite at North Park!
The Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens annual Dazzling Lights is also a family favorite and runs until the 31st.
More about Sports
Mr. Jeremy has heard from many students that they are interested in learning more about sports and watching them live. Pittsburgh has many cost-effective options for college sports. Below, we have linked the athletic pages for some of the local universities:
