Middle School (12 – 14 years)

A Dynamic Program for 7th and 8th Graders
The Glen’s Middle School blends rigorous academics with purposeful work to help adolescents grow into confident, capable, and compassionate adults. Our program supports the unique needs of this age group—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Students engage in core subjects like math, language arts, science, and social studies, alongside Spanish, visual and performing arts, and physical education. Field studies and service learning extend education beyond the classroom, fostering independence and real-world understanding.
Supporting the Adolescent Journey
Maria Montessori called adolescence the “Third Plane of Development”—a time of rapid change, self-discovery, and a deepening social awareness. Our program is designed to meet students where they are, with purposeful experiences that help them ask and answer life’s big questions:
— Who am I?
— Where do I fit in?
— How can I contribute?
Through meaningful work, collaboration, and service, students explore identity, build empathy, and grow into responsible young adults—all in a supportive, responsive environment.
Learning With Purpose
Our Montessori classroom is a dynamic, multi-age space that promotes independence, deep inquiry, and collaborative learning. Students enjoy uninterrupted work periods, project-based learning, and integrated academics that foster curiosity and critical thinking.
Our three pillars of learning:
Cross-disciplinary work goes beyond state standards, building creativity and problem-solving.
Arts, writing, and collaborative work help students discover their voice.
Real-world experiences teach responsibility, leadership, and life skills.
Real-World Learning Through the Pedagogy of Place
Learning is most meaningful when it connects to the real world. That’s why our curriculum embraces the Montessori principle of “Pedagogy of Place”—an approach that empowers students to take ownership of their learning and contributions to the community.
Students take on meaningful service projects, integrated research, and community-based work that cultivates leadership and agency. Tools like work plans, rubrics, and checklists support executive functioning and independence.
Key experiences include:
— Classroom governance and leadership
— Outdoor education and nature-based learning
— Microeconomy projects that build financial literacy
— Ethical, intentional use of technology
More Than Academics—A Path to Purpose
The Glen Montessori Middle School is a place where adolescents thrive. Our program prepares students not only for high school, but for a purposeful, engaged life.
