Announcing a New Middle School!

The Glen Montessori School Board of Directors and Head of School are thrilled to announce the opening of a Middle School—serving seventh and eighth grades—on our campus for the 2025–2026 school year.

Many of you are familiar with the Sewickley Montessori Middle School (SMMS) and its strong reputation for excellence, particularly in meeting the unique developmental needs of adolescents. What you may not know is that, just one month ago, it was announced that SMMS and its host school, Montessori Children’s Community, will be closing at the end of this school year.

In response, our community began exploring how we could help.

We are honored to welcome Tess Reismeyer, who has led the Middle School in Sewickley for the past twelve years, to continue that work for our new Middle School at The Glen. While we recognize the significant work ahead—on a very condensed timeline—we feel incredibly fortunate to have the right team to bring this vision to life.

We’ve all heard the stories—and seen the research—about the challenges of adolescence: students feeling disengaged, anxious, lonely, or overwhelmed during their middle school years. But what if we could create a different kind of experience?

What if our Middle School, like all our programs, were grounded in the child’s developmental needs? What if we built a community-centered program where students could engage deeply, grow meaningfully, and contribute authentically?

That’s exactly what we are setting out to do.
