Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”   

2025 is the 26th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.

Students will celebrate the International Day of Peace in their classroom on or around this day, focusing on Maria Montessori’s vision for peace and social justice.  Read more about her vision here at the American Montessori Society’s website.
